Job Title:Research Technician 1

Department:FAES | Plant Pathology

The Fang Laboratory at The Ohio State University is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Technician to support projects investigating the molecular genetics of fungal and oomycete pathogens. The successful candidate will contribute to studies aimed at understanding the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying pathogen virulence and adaptation. This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment focused on advancing molecular fungal genetics and plant pathology research.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, 0 years experience needed.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with molecular cloning techniques, including primer design, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and RT-qPCR.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and present experimental results using standard statistical approaches.
• Proficiency with standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Demonstrated flexibility, initiative, and motivation to learn and apply new technologies in a dynamic research environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (with 1–2 years of relevant experience) or master's degree in molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, plant pathology, or a closely related field.

• Experience with culturing microbes, particularly fungi and/or oomycetes.
• Experience conducting plant–pathogen interaction assays or related phenotypic analyses.
• Familiarity with bioinformatics or molecular analysis software, such as Geneious.
• Familiarity with laboratory safety practices and record-keeping for molecular biology experiments.

This is a full-time, 12-month appointment, term position with initial funding for two years. Renewal may be possible based on satisfactory performance and the continued availability of funding

The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications
